چکیده
Astrocytes play both physiological and pathological roles in maintaining central nervous system (CNS) function. Here, we review the varied functions of astrocytes how these might change subsets reactive astrocytes. We current understanding astrocyte interactions with microglia vasculature protective barriers as well highlight recent insights into physiologic sub-states identified by transcriptional profiling. Endothelial Cell- Astrocyte Interactions
Recent advances in cell biology open the way for studying aspects of blood-brain bamer (BBB) formation and function that have puzzled investigators since Ehrlich and Goldmann first described the barrier. Although the endothelial cells in the microvessels of all tissues appear to arise from common mesodermal precursors, considerable organ-to-organ variability exists in their ultrastructure and p...
متن کاملImaging the microanatomy of astrocyte–T-cell interactions in immune-mediated inflammation
The role of astrocytes in the immune-mediated inflammatory response in the brain is more prominent than previously thought. Astrocytes become reactive in response to neuro-inflammatory stimuli through multiple pathways, contributing significantly to the machinery that modifies the parenchymal environment. In particular, astrocytic signaling induces the establishment of critical relationships wi...
متن کاملDNA methylation in states of cell physiology and pathology.
DNA methylation is one of epigenetic mechanisms regulating gene expression. The methylation pattern is determined during embryogenesis and passed over to differentiating cells and tissues. In a normal cell, a significant degree of methylation is characteristic for extragenic DNA (cytosine within the CG dinucleotide) while CpG islands located in gene promoters are unmethylated, except for inacti...
متن کاملUrobilin Physiology and Pathology
Further evidence is presented, in addition to that of our previous papers, that the intestinal tract is, under ordinary circumstances, the sole place of origin of urobilin. So long as the biliary tract remains sterile the presence of the pigment in bile and urine is entirely dependent upon the passage of bile to the intestine. Animals rendered urobilin-free by the collection of all the bile fro...

BACKGROUND Diabetes mellitus has reached epidemic proportions and requires new strategies for treatment. Unfortunately, the efficacy of treatment regimens on maintaining/re-gaining functional beta cell mass can, at the present, only be determined indirectly. Direct monitoring of beta cell mass is complicated by the anatomy of the endocrine pancreas, which consists of thousands to a million of d...
